Where are jobs?
Well, once again a front-page article on how great the job market is in
the Dallas area and particularly the suburbs and in the high-tech
Richardson area ("Area suburbs surpass Dallas in total jobs," Nov. 12).
Indeed, you state Nortel has increased its office complex by 70 percent.
Wonder how a qualified, good, clean, moral Christian family man with 20
years' experience in the aforementioned industry could find one of these
jobs if they are so plentiful. He has experience with small companies
and huge ones - from field service work to systems analyst and stayed
with one company for 13 years.
Hundreds of hours have been spent in the past three months on the
Internet, attending job fairs and sending out resumes. There have been
some very promising interviews but potential employers never seem to
return calls, never even have the courtesy to say "yes - no - maybe" as
far as qualifications or filling the position.
If this person (who is our son, by the way) had not been working a
second job and his wife had not been employed, his family would have
suffered more than they already have. Neither the Texas Employment
Commission nor job placement companies have found a suitable career for
this man who happens to live in Richardson. Where are the jobs?
